I hope everyone is having a fabulous break!
The weather is certainly cooperating with us.

Although our first week back is only 4 days - it will be packed!
We will be learning about:

Reading - adding -er and -est
(kinder, cutest, thinner, happiest)
The rules we've already learned will used again this week.
English - Book Reports
We will make a sample book report in class.
They will take this home along with instructions and the book
they choose on Friday.
Math - Capacity
No grades will be taken on this unit. It is simply an
introduction. We will learn the names of different
measuring tools (cups, pints, quarts, gallon) and equivalent
measurements (2 cups equals 1 pint, etc.)
Social Studies - Our Country
Bible - Easter

As you can see, we will be busy little bees!
So...rest up and enjoy your time off!

What an excellent day !!!
Eric Litwin was absolutely fabulous!!!

All of the kids have been extra sweet for me this week.
I've been battling something that has taken most of my voice away.
Hopefully, with a little rest I'll be back to full speed next week.

We will be learning about:

Reading - Plurals (-s, -es/words ending in s,x,z,ch,sh, -ies/change y to i)
English - Compound Words
Math - Measurement
Science - Air and Weather
Bible - Easter
Verse - Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father into your hands I commit my spirit." When
had said this, he breathed his last. Luke 23:46

I sent the Spelling Words home today.
The Spelling Test and Bible Verse will be done on THURSDAY!!!
Friday is a half day. The entire morning will be comprised of the Science Fest.

The kids are really enjoying Air and Weather.
I've heard several comments about wanting to be scientists
when they grow up!

Homophones (homonyms) were a blast!
We enjoyed so many fun activities with them.
We are also having lots of fun with fractions.
Their "fractionpillars" turned out so cute!
We will continue working with fractions next week.

We'll also be learning about:

Reading - dropping the e and doubling the last letter ( wave/waving, hop/hopping)
English - Multiple Meanings (bat, ball, etc.)
Math - Fractions
Science - Air and Weather
Bible - Easter

Next week we have several special things going on...
Wed., the 14th - Class Pictures and Ahna's Angels sing
Fri., the 16th - Author Visit

I hope everyone had a good time on our field trip Friday.
It's such a good trip. It's one of my favorites!
A huge thank you to our drivers...we couldn't have gotten there without you!

A big shout out to Emma Jane...we certainly missed you last week.
It just wasn't the same without you. We hope you are feeling much better!

Next week we will be studying:

Reading - Reviewing -s, -ed, -ing
English - Homophones
Math - Fractions
Science - Air and Weather
Bible - Samuel
Verse - Psalm 23:2

Can you believe we are getting ready to start our 4th 9 weeks?
Where did the time go????

Sunday, February 26, 2012

Uhhh... make that alleviate...NOT elevate.
That would be the exact opposite of what they are trying to do.

Spell check is great unless it's an actual word!

Between buttons and Kisses - math was a blast this week!
We sorted, problem solved, estimated, graphed, divided and followed up
with a writing activity.
Hope you enjoyed reading those as much as I did!

Next week we will be learning about:

Reading - au, aw
English - Capitalization and Commas
Math - Shapes (emphasis on solid shapes)
Science - Air and Weather
Bible - Hannah
Verse - Psalm 23:1

Friday we will head to "Let's Pretend Hospital".
For those of you who don't know about this - it's a field trip
set up by nursing students. They walk the kids through all
the different areas of a hospital and familiarize them with
equipment and tools of the trade. Hopefully, if they must
go to the hospital themselves - some of the fear is elevated.
(Sorry Jackson...you beat us to it!)

Looking ahead...Class Pictures - March 14th

Enjoy your weekend. I am looking forward to a full week with
the kids

I am so sorry that I wasn't able to come to the Valentine's Party.
I have not missed a school party - EVER!!! So, know that I did not come
to the conclusion to stay home lightly. I've never seen my fellow that sick.

I am reaching out for a little help in recapturing good behavior from our class.
As one might expect - having a sub for 2 days, kind of made the kids think that
they were in charge. And they were a bit reluctant to relinquish their new found
status. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

With another short week ahead of us - we will hit the road running next week.
We will be learning about:

Reading - oi, oy
English - capitals and commas
Math - review
Social Studies - Land and Water
Bible - The "Lost" Stories

I sent the Spelling Words home Thursday.
We went over what they mean and how to sort them.
It's a bit easier to study if they'll remember that oi comes in the word and oy at the end.
The only exception is oyster.
There is NO dictation sentence for these words!

Enjoy the long weekend.
Do something really fun!!!
